Mayank Tivary is an APAC Technical Sourcing Manager based in Singapore who has 15 years of experience hiring across various tech companies. He currently oversees a team of five people and is looking to grow his team extensively.

In this episode of our Culture Matters podcast hosted by Employer Brand Specialist, Lynn Chang, Mayank talks about the differences between sourcers and recruiters, some of the challenges the sourcing team faces and what it takes to be part of his team.

If recruitment and HR is up your alley, you’ll want to give this podcast a listen.

“Every candidate that is introduced to a company for a prospective job comes through two channels – one is either an active channel, or a passive channel,” Mayank begins to explain where the role of a sourcer falls into in the recruiting channel.

“An active channel is a channel where a candidate is already interested in the company… they are already interested in the role and want to apply for that role in this particular company.”

“So that would include channels like referrals, internal mobility or our own internal job board, where people actively go and apply for a job they see and they like,” he continues to share.

After describing the role of a sourcer, Mayank goes on to talk about some of the challenges they face, especially sourcing for roles in APAC. He talks about the importance of education and awareness of the company – what we do and what we stand for.

Mayank also emphasized that as teams in APAC, we all play an equally important role to our global mission of helping all people get jobs.

“We are not a support engineering function or support engineering team set up in Tokyo, Singapore, and Hyderabad. We actually build products out of all these three locations,” Mayank highlights.

In this conversation, he talks about some of the key things he looks for in someone joining his team and highlights three key things: the ability to problem solve, an amazing power to build relationships with candidates and the resourcefulness to use the right tools to look for passive candidates.

He also talks about his experience working at Indeed, what the team has done differently before and now, during the pandemic and gives advice to someone wanting to join the team.
