Oluwaseun was an Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) intern based in Ireland, focused on Insights and Content. In this blog, you’ll hear her story of finding Indeed, becoming an intern, and some of the lessons that she learned in her time #insideindeed.

Oluwaseun in a red topMy journey to Indeed began while I was working on completing my Master of Arts (Journalism and Media Communications) degree program. With a couple of weeks left to the end of the semester, I spent a lot of time contemplating what I would do during my summer holiday. I really wanted to utilize that time to focus on my personal development and was concerned that I hadn’t already established plans.

My faculty’s administrator often emails students about internship opportunities for summer, and I found myself constantly sorting through the options I received. Each job description I read left me feeling hopeless, even the ones I believed to be a good fit. Subconsciously, I think I just didn’t feel like I stood a chance of being selected.

Fast forward to the last week of lectures, I received an email stating that Indeed was searching for an ESG Insights and Content Intern. The job description was so different from the previous ones that I’d sorted through, and I was super excited about this role. I didn’t want to take any chances, so I quickly applied the following morning.

The recruitment process and onboarding at Indeed were both extraordinary. I spent the first few weeks learning more about Indeed’s products and organizational structure. I worked on the Social Impact (SI) team, so I familiarized myself with the team’s intricacies as well as projects and priority markets. I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with both my manager Astou and my mentor Eamonn. My favorite part of working with them was observing their thought processes and watching how they both simplify seemingly daunting tasks.

In my time at Indeed, I worked on two incredibly interesting projects:

  • A demographic data collection project in international priority markets
  • A three-part video project designed to highlight the voice of jobseekers facing barriers, call attention to the impact of external partnerships, and explain how the social impact team drives its progress through ESG, Product, Technology, and Engineering (PTE) & the Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP)

Working on these projects has been an amazing learning experience for me. It is like watching your textbook come to life.

My experience at Indeed by far superseded my expectation and has raised the bar of what I consider a positive employee experience. This internship provided me with the opportunity to meet a diverse group of people and has birthed in me a new passion to learn as much as I can to have a positive impact.

The people Indeedians help get jobs are not just random people on the other side of the screen, but they are people with differentOluwaseun with Chris Hyams stories, or better still they are people we know – our friends and families. Working at Indeed allows you to dedicate yourself to passionately working towards a cause that is way more than you can imagine. It is you doing the most you can in your own little way.

One of the highlights of my Internship was the CEO- Chris Hyams answering my question about job seekers facing barriers in Nigeria.

I am so proud to have experienced this company. I’ve learned not to be afraid to take up space, and to shoot my shot! A huge shout-out to all Indeedians for the work you do and for preserving Indeed’s culture and values. Thank you!
