After discovering a passion for team building, coaching, and consulting, Andres shifted his almost three-decade eye care career to pursuing an industrial organizational psychology education. This pivot led him to Indeed, where he utilizes his diverse skill set to drive meaningful change by improving hiring practices that benefit employers and job seekers. Explore how Andres reshaped his career trajectory and delved into Indeed’s Inclusion Business Resource Groups (IBRGs), fueling his dedication to diversity & inclusion while strengthening his connection to helping all people get jobs.

After 28 years in the eye care industry, I transitioned into consulting for eye care and dental, spurred by my wife’s dentistry profession. I discovered a passion for team building, coaching, and consulting, leading me to pursue further education in industrial organizational psychology (IO psychology). IO psychology focuses on improving work environments by applying psychological principles and research, aiming to enhance organizational effectiveness and employee satisfaction – by studying workplace behavior, developing selection methods, designing training programs, and promoting employee wellbeing, to create healthier and more productive work environments. I joined Indeed because I wanted to be a leader in the community of IO psychology within the job search industry. Recognized as the number one job site globally*, combined with Indeed’s reputation for treating its employees well, convinced me that Indeed was the ideal place to make a significant impact and advance IO psychology within the industry.

My role in Client Success at Indeed has been incredibly fulfilling. By leveraging my diverse background, I assist recruiters and hiring managers with systems and tools while understanding the recruiting process’s intricacies and people’s development. I’ve used my experience regulating training standards for the eyecare industry to assist hiring managers in optimizing their recruitment processes.

By helping clients refine their hiring strategies, I directly contribute to improving job opportunities for individuals seeking work. This parallel between my past regulatory work and my current Client Success role highlights the tangible impact I can make in facilitating better hiring practices, ultimately benefiting clients and job seekers alike. One of the most significant milestones in my career at Indeed was transitioning to working entirely in Spanish with the team in Mexico. This shift demonstrates my adaptability and aligns with Indeed’s dedication to diversity and inclusion. Ultimately, my role at Indeed allows me to fulfill my goal of helping people find jobs.

In addition to my core responsibilities, I’ve actively participated in several Inclusion Business Resource Groups (IBRGs) at Indeed, including All Generations Empowered (AGE), where I hold a leadership role as a country liaison for the America’s – United States.

Being part of an IBRG is essential to me because it provides a platform for contributions toward creating inclusivity and empowerment in the workplace across all generations. IBRGs offer a platform for diverse perspectives and ideas, fostering meaningful dialogue and collaboration and leading to a more inclusive and supportive workplace culture at Indeed.

Professionally, IRGs have provided opportunities for growth and networking while also raising awareness of inclusivity issues. It has broadened my perspective and equipped me with the tools to advocate for the values our leaders want at Indeed. I particularly enjoy organizing events that promote diversity and inclusion, such as Q&A sessions and workshops. Additionally, the opportunity to be trusted by IBRG leaders like Virginia, America’s Co-Chair for All Generations Empowered, and engage with employees from various backgrounds and experiences enriches my professional and personal growth.

Moreover, I’ve had the privilege of engaging in external initiatives, such as speaking engagements for Austin High School students and city-wide talks on career development, allowing me to extend my passion for promoting inclusivity beyond the workplace.

Reflecting on my journey, I’m grateful for Indeed because it allows me to be myself and embrace opportunities for growth and contribution. I stay at Indeed because I believe in the mission of helping people get jobs and the supportive environment that enables me to thrive as a leader in this community.
