Thao Nguyen was a remotely based Graphic Design Intern at Indeed. In this blog, she provides an authentic look at life as an intern #insideindeed, while sharing advice for future intern candidates!

What made you decide to join Indeed’s internship program?

As summer was approaching, I thought to myself “I have to make use of all this free time and make my parents proud!” The first thing I did was browse through Indeed’s website for internships, knowing that they’re a household name. Then, everything fell into place. Somehow I came across the Graphic Design Intern position at Indeed! I thought “This is it! This is my destiny!”, and luckily, I got the job. I was ecstatic! Being able to work for a company like Indeed while still in college is such a big flex!

What was the biggest challenge you faced as an intern?

Imposter syndrome is real and I definitely experienced it. Even though I was extremely happy to work at Indeed, I couldn’t help feeling like a fraud and not good enough for the position I was hired for. I was constantly worried about making a mistake and letting down my team.

I got the courage to talk to my mentor about my feelings and we had a heart-to-heart conversation. I was told that most graphic designers actually experience similar feelings, and that’s why we have the internship program – it’s a safe space to make mistakes and grow!

Biggest benefit of working at Indeed as an intern?

I worked remotely, but in those few times I got a chance to visit the office in Dublin, the facilities, the

architecture, and everything else was amazing!

On a more serious note, I’m very grateful for all the help I got from the team I work with. People usually say “happy to help” as a courtesy but here at Indeed, they mean it. I felt really supported the entire time I was here.

What does “I help people get jobs” mean to you? How do you live/work by our mission every day?

In my short time here, I can see with my own eyes how Indeed really lives up to that mission. They constantly update their service and their staff members’ skills to make sure finding jobs is easy, accessible and inclusive.

In my line of work, I wasn’t involved directly with the job seekers. However, I tried to keep “easy, accessible and inclusive” in mind and in my designs. Hopefully those tiny graphics I made will reach people’s hearts!

Advice for others who may be thinking about joining Indeed as in intern, or have recently joined?

First thing I want to say is there will be a fun journey ahead of you! Don’t be afraid to reach out when you need help. There is really no “stupid” question. You’re not expected to know everything when you get started. Internship means learning and training. Just enjoy your time #insideindeed!
